I love all those nice, new front doors on Pinterest that have stenciling on them saying “Welcome” or “Hello”, so I had to find some way to add them to my old farmhouse door!
Supplies I Used
- “Hello” stencil I made with my Silhouette Studio
- Dixie Belle’s Bunker Hill Blue
- Dixie Belle’s Clear Coat Satin
- Mod Podge in Matte
- Frog Tape

stenciling my front door
Stenciling my front door was such a quick and easy project and added cuteness factor to my entry way!
Once I measured the area I wanted to stencil, I had to keep it under 4″ and horizontal., I worked on finding a cute font for “Hello”.
I figured the layout, added my 4″ border to help me keep my design centered and used my Silhouette Cutter to make my personalized stencil.
You can also click here to see how I use borders to ensure my signs are perfectly centered.

Stenciling an uneven surface is prone to potential bleeding.
Using Mod Podge or the same paint color as the background of your surface to burnish the stencil to you project should help minimize most bleeds.
Cleaning up bleeds are easily done with a baby wipe wrapped around something small and gently wipe next to your font or design.
I had several since my door is very old, with several coat of paint.
But the bleeds cleaned up very well.
I did go back later and seal my “hello” with Dixie Belle’s Clear Coat in Satin and it blends in very well with semi-gloss Eider White by Sherwin Williams on my door.
