My first America Flag and I used ReDesign by Prima America Transfer. I absolutely love how she turned out! Thank goodness I checked the scrap pile at Falveys and found a plank of car siding!

I was at my local lumbar store getting supplies for another project when I saw this long board leaning up next to the “junk pile”.
Once I turned it over and saw the planking and I was immediately intrigued.
I had a new transfer sitting at home and I knew exactly what I was going to do.
ReDesign with Prima has a new transfer, America and I prayed the board was long enough to get 3 – 30″ pieces from it, it was!
Turning Car Siding into a plank sign
Once I brought the boards home, I sanded the tops, backside and each side.
Next I grabbed my glue and applied a bead of glue in the groves and slid the tongue of the next board into this.
I did the same for the next board.
Keep an eye out for glue running out of the seems and wipe them carefully with a damp clean rag.
For extra durability, I used 2 – 12″ fur strips (1″x2″) and screwed then in to the backside of my soon to be America flag sign.
staining My Car Siding/Plank Sign
I chose Dixie Belle’s No Pain Gel Stain in Black Magic to stain my new plank sign.
To apply this evenly, I damped my lint free rag and then applied a few long squirts of Black Magic on the plank board.
Then I ran my rag along the grain of my sign and rubbed the Black Magic into the wood.
Keep applying until you get full coverage.
Don’t forget to stain the sides, top and bottom.
For a darker look, you can apply a second coat if you wish once the first coat is dry.
APPLYING MY AMERICA TRANSFER
When my stain was dry, it’s time to add the America Flag transfer.
I started with the top transfer, the one with the stars and red and white lines.
Transfers come in three layers, peel off the back layer and carefully line up the top of the transfer to the top of the plank sign.
Once you have the transfer lined up, start from the middle of the transfer and push the transfer down and out to remove any air bubbles.
Here I got to play with my new transfer tool and it made applying this to my new sign much easier.
When the transfer is rubbed on, slowly pull up the top clear layer.
If you notice the transfer coming up with the top layer, immediately put it back down and rub it onto you sign again.
Repeat this process as needed.
Once the first half of the transfer is applied, time to apply the bottom half.
Carefully line up the bottom half using the stars that are in the design and then follow the same process as before.
Once I was all done, I used my 220 grit sand block and rubbed this all over my sign.
This help the transfer adhere to the wood grain and give it a distressed look also.
Sealing my America Flag
I applied a couple of coats of Dixie Belle’s Clear Coat in flat.
But before I did, I rubbed more Black Magic over my new America Flag sign and it gave this a deep rich look.
She is now proudly hanging in my dining room above one of my hutches!
